Labeling
In response to concerns regarding a higher risk of medication errors with heparin, Fresenius Kabi USA, LLC launched in 2008 new labeling for its Heparin Sodium Injection, USP. While the new labeling will still include unique cap and label colors for each strength, as well as bar codes at the individual unit-of-use, it will also incorporate bolder and larger typefaces and notations of total unit strength and volume to help clearly differentiate Heparin Sodium Injection, USP from other heparin products, including Heparin Lock Flush Solution, USP.

Simplified Upright Text
An increased focus on a horizontal read of information.

Bolded and Increased Font Size
Font size increased 200% on average for each strength.

Cap and Label Colors
Even more vibrant cap and label colors unique for each strength.

Total strength and volume
Notations of total unit strength per mL and total volume.

Bar Codes
Bar codes at the individual unit-of-use.

New in 2009
Additional label enhancements are scheduled for early 2009 to ensure Heparin Sodium's differentiation from Heparin Lock Flush Solution, USP. This will include "Not for lock flush" labeling on the caps of every vial of Heparin Sodium Injection.
